Bill and the bean stalk…Farm Series #5

Bill Williams is part farmer, part mad scientist. Perhaps mad is a tad dramatic but talk to him about his beans and you’ll understand the scientist part.  At Mobetta Farms, Bill and partner Sheryl started growing Jacob’s Cattle and Orca beans and over the years Bill has experimented with a portion of their crop and new varieties have evolved. A combination of agricultural knowledge and good old Mother Nature has resulted in some of the most colourful and interesting beans I have ever seen.

In addition to their famed dried beans Bill and Sheryl also provide an abundance of asparagus, tomatoes, herbs, lettuces, peas and kolrabi to the Kootenay Co-op and local markets throughout the Grand Forks area.

While you may not find a giant at the top of their bean stalks their beans make a great staple in anyone’s pantry.
